Larry Edwards rendered a scene of Medusa character studies, each with a unique shrieking or grimace expression, as if intermingling during a get-together over a beer or Absinthe in an exquisite emerald green translucent bottle. Supple brown chairs adorn the earth tones of the table that juts back into space with a force that pushes the ghostly rodent forward into the den of vipers as though it is a topic that unavoidably must be devoured.

However, there is also a sense of mystery in this depiction that could lead to a scenario where instead of the elephant in the room, it’s the white rodent in the room, thus symbolizing the topic everyone talks around without ever actually discussing. Or perhaps it is as simple as Larry with colleagues during critique.

Complimentary colors are well executed to create a sense of space between the red and orange burning candles with that of the blue and ashen Gothic cathedral environment. A sense of madness permeates the scene in alignment with much of Edwards’ subject matter. His series over the years inhabit exotic creatures ranging from flamingos to serpents, oddities and strangeness much appreciated by the weirdo in my heart.
