I chose this color lithograph, "Sunflower", by artist Beth Van Hoesen from AMUM'S collection because I think it's simply beautiful. I admire Van Hoesen's ability to highlight the intricate details of the sunflower while maintaining a sense of gentleness in the soft wisp of the flower petals. I think Van Hoesen's choice to hint at the disk floret in the center of the sunflower without making it darker in contrast to the bold, yellow color of the petals further adds an intimacy to this creation and is also reminiscent to the surface of the sun. It's a gentle nod to the hot summer weather we typically experience in the South.
