Untitled Sketch of Trees

Screen Shot 2021-06-23 at 11.34.12 AM.png

Untitled, ca. 1889, Drawing

Samuel H. Crone, 1858-1913, American

Gift of William S. Huff

I chose this piece for the pick of the week because of how beautiful Samuel Crone’s sketches are. Crone always puts so much detail into his sketches even if it is for something as simple as a chair or can. This drawing is of two trees next to each other. One of the trees is in front of the other that is next to the wall and staircase. There are two figures next to the trees that appear to be like suggested figures. This piece’s main focus is the trees while everything else is a suggestion. In something so simple, there is so much detail and life.
