The Hunt | A Hare Mask
Rabbits pose the greatest threat to the crops of Dogon farmers, and so are incorporated into their rituals and ceremonies regarding agriculture. Though agriculture is the main focus in Dogon culture as it is a great lifeline, the hunt and the animals involved are also included. A dancer or a group of dancers wearing a "dyommo" or rabbit mask will flee from a performer with a "dannana" mask who acts as a hunter. The rabbits will flee to hide amongst spectators while they are chased down.
