Description
Carved wooden sculpture attributed to the Dogon peoples of Mali in West Africa. The carving depicts a man riding a horse. The figure has a long, pointed beard and wears a tight cap on his head. The figure's elongated facial features are characteristic of Dogon art. There is a bow on the man’s right shoulder and a quiver of arrows on his back, suggesting that the man is a warrior. The horse is saddled and bridled. The man holds the bridle in his left hand and rests his right hand on the horn of the saddle. The horse's legs are elongated and its hooves join with the rectangular wood base of the sculpture.
