Dublin Core
Title
Intimations of Immortality
Subject
A dreaming boy.
Description
The subject of the lithograph is a boy waking from a dream, recalling Cloar's own sleepless nights worrying about his soul. The foreground of the lithograph depicts the waking boy, sitting up from his pillow. In the right corner behind his bed is a depiction of Satan as a large, blackened figure with claws, horns, and fins protruding from his back. Behind him is a mural of the boy's dreams, containing a preaching man, a small church, women sitting in a pew, a pilgrim carrying a large book entitled, "The Pilgrim's Progress," and farmers with angel's wings working a field and carrying their fishing poles.
