The subject of this lithograph is the death of a boy named Monk Carter, who fell from a rotten pecan tree. On the viewer's left is the tall tree, with few branches. Falling from the top, at the top center of the image, is Monk Carter, in a sweater and pants, hair flying up, and an alarmed face as he falls. At the bottom of the image, three more boys look up in shock at his falling form.
