Title

Amulet Mask Carvings

Description

Eleven miniature carved heads from the middle and lower Sepik River region of Papua New Guinea. These carved heads are made from galip nuts (which are indigenous to the region and similar to macadamia nuts), cassowary feathers, and beads. The facial features of each carving incorporate the natural form of the nut. Beaded eyes match beaded headdresses on each nut, which are topped with cassowary feathers.
